My love affair with Rihanna

In 2006, one of my major guilty pleasures was Rihanna's SOS. I had to keep this love quite secret because Rihanna's bubblegum pop image clashed with the dark brooding tastes of my friends. Downloading the song got me quite a nasty look from my significant other when I was caught bopping around in my chair to it.
I figured at that point Rihanna would fade into the background and become another Mandy Moore.
Rihanna seemed to grow up overnight. One minute she was the pretty girl-next-door type that was singing simple and catchy pop songs. Then suddenly she cut all of her hair off (spawning a hairstyle on par with "The Rachel" or "The Posh") and was strutting her stuff on MTV in fetish gear and bondage.

She suddenly became a style icon, experimenting in everything from girly and pretty to gothic and macabre. Her newest single, Disturbia, shows her dark side.

Sure, she seems to have stolen a few dance moves from the Silent Hill nurses, but I forgive her.
Thank you Rihanna for bringing an edge back to pop music. And for not telling us you are punk rawk and naming a song "sk8r boi".

Nostalgia Edition
The best thing about DevArt is that many of the artists get nostalgic and use their skills to bring back a loved movie or show from their youth. I've put together a collection of my favorites from these.

Now, you may be wondering why the HELL To Wong Foo is in there. My mom took me to see it in the theater on opening day. I think she was trying to make me a fag hag at a young age because of her introducing me to movies like Rocky Horror and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert before I was even 10.
Oh, and I threw in a few of my childhood spank fantasies for you as well. Enjoy.

Automata

My first real fascination with automata started in middleschool, when, one boring afternoon, I watched a tiny segment on some random show about an old mechanical swan that would dip his head into a "pond" and snatch up a silver fish when you turned a crank. That 5 minute segment sparked such a fascination in me that even today I get excited at the mere thought of automata.

Now, modern robots and animatronics have replaced the old, creaky, and slightly disturbing automata of yesteryear. There are still several artists who still practice this "lost art", but they are few and far between. Hopefully with this new trend of steampunk will come an interest in automata once more. But until then I guess I'll have to settle for videos from the 70s uploaded onto youtube.

I get all of my automata news from here, in case you are interested.

My Favorite Videogames Edition
Not too many people are shocked to find out that I'm a gamer. I wear shirts emblazoned with various videogame characters (my Kratos shirt comes to mind), I'm never far from my DS, and I'm more than willing to share my excitement for upcoming games. So of course I'm always looking up my favorite games on DeviantArt. Here are a few of my favorite pieces inspired by those games I love.

My only pet peeve of being a girl gamer is the elitist attitude many of them have. I've been accused of being a gamer only to get guys or I only play cutesy games. Whatever, I'll kick your ass in Soul Calibur AND Pokemon. Maybe Halo on a good day.

Brand New!

I've decided to make a blog following the things I love. It's just a baby now!
Feel free to visit me on these other sites until I get everything up and running :)
